‘Stop Drinking the Kool-Aid, America: Political Fiction in an Age of Televised Lies’ by John W. Whitehead

More relevance and truth from John Whitehead

John W. Whitehead, Constitutional Attorney

“We’ve got to face it. Politics have entered a new stage, the television stage. Instead of long-winded public debates, the people want capsule slogans—‘Time for a change’—‘The mess in Washington’—‘More bang for a buck’—punch lines and glamour.”— A Face in the Crowd (1957)

Politics is entertainment.

It is a heavily scripted, tightly choreographed, star-studded, ratings-driven, mass-marketed, costly exercise in how to sell a product—in this case, a presidential candidate—to dazzled consumers who will choose image over substance almost every time.

This year’s presidential election, much like every other election in recent years, is what historian Daniel Boorstin referred to as a “pseudo-event”: manufactured, contrived, confected and devoid of any intrinsic value save the value of being advertised. 1. An excellent post, but as I commented on that blog, corporations don’t run America. They’re second or third down the food chain. Lawyers control America. And that’s why it sucks.

    • I’d have to disagree Jim. Most of the lawyers and firms are hired/retained by the mega corporations or government. It’s Corporations either directly or indirectly. By proxy. That is how legislation also works. Corporatist enterprises legislate by proxy by bribing (lobbying) or dark money directly to campaigns. The Corporatist-Fascist rule in America and the West in general has been going on for over a century here but has really accelerated in the past 2-3 decades as ‘de-regulation’ has become a disease in DC. Again, thanks to the bribing of corrupted politicians. I would like to think that Black Rock, Blackstone, Goldman, Credit Suisse, Aetna, Prudential Financial (these are the Bankster cartel) don’t control the US and the West, but with Billions and Trillions of dollars in their coffers, it just isn’t so. Big money controls gov (this is known as the Shadow Government) they make laws, they don’t pay much taxes and they commit heinous crimes with impunity. Much of our economic, military and social policies are now based on National Socialist policies of the 1930s, just updated, refined and streamlined.
