iON Air Pro Video Cam

A few ‘action’ type clips and review of the iON Air Pro 10011L video camera.

The Air Pro 1011L is dubbed a ‘sports action’ camera that is suitable for a wide variety of uses. It mounts to handlebars (with a clamp mount included) as well as helmets for first-person action pov. You can see the wide perspective the camera captures, though it is slightly ‘fisheyeed’ due to the type of lens it uses. So far I am relatively pleased with the camera.

One of the minor complaints I have is that the function buttons could be a bit more user friendly (the record button is not so easy to slide up and down. There is a lot of resistance, and recording on the fly, using one hand to switch it on can sometimes be a bit of a challenge. Also, the image stabilization is not as good as the GoPro’s. But for only 35 bucks (with free shipping) it’s a very decent camera.

I wound up purchasing a refurbished 1011L from a camera shop on eBay back in May. I have used it about 15 times since then with only minor issues. Overall, I would rate it a C+ for quality and price factors. It’s a novelty I suppose, but it’s fun to play with once and while… (for my own use, I found that the 60fps setting is best for ‘speed’ shots)

Quick overview of its features Include:

• A 170 degree field of view that records videos in 1080p and 720p, that has options for 30fps or 60fps. Records audio with a built-in microphone as well. Camera captures 5mp still or burst shot images.
  
• The iON Air Pro 1011L camera is waterproof  up to 10 meters/30 feet. 
• Storage utilizes Micro SD/Micro SDHC type cards. With a capacity up to 32gb. USB 2.0 connection. Battery life is approximately 2.5 hours.

Arctic sea ice continues to grow back at a phenomenal rate. Since the start of the month, growth has comfortable exceeded anything on record since daily figures began in 1987.

Ice has expanded by 0.896 million sq km, compared to the 1981-2010 average of 0.237 million sq km.

According to NSIDC, ice extent now stands at the fourth highest for this day in the last 10 years.

DMI actually show ice extent to be higher than NSIDC, roughly equal to 2013 and 2014, which raises questions in itself.

DMI now estimate that the average extent for the month will be greater than, or on a par with, most of the last ten years. Only 2013 and 2014 are much greater.

It is clear that September ice extent has remained extremely stable since 2007, regardless of what happened before.
